Edgar Rice Burroughs
Burroughs was born on September 1, 1875 in Chicago,
Illinois. He is the author of 85 novels, including the
famous Tarzan Series, the Barsoom series and the Pellucidar
series. He is known as one of the greatest
action/adventure/science fiction authors of all time.
The
Land that Time Forgot, The People that Time Forgot and Out
of Time’s Abyss were first published in 1918 in The Blue
Book, a pulp fiction periodical. The books appeared in three
consecutive months: October, November and December. Between
1924 and 1960 the book was published as a single unit, but
in 1960 ACE Books published them as separate volumes and
they’ve been treated as independent works since. In this
Special Edition of The Land that Time Forgot, the book is
once again presented as it was meant to be read—a single
work.
Breakneck Classics is publishing the Caspak series, which is
made up of The Land that Time Forgot, The People
that Time Forgot and Out of Time's Abyss, which
were published as a single novel until 1960, when publishers
split the novel into three novellas.
We are proud to have The Land that Time Forgot as our
first classic and are even more pleased to be presenting it
in it's original format—which is how we believe Edgar
intended the book to be read.

Jules Verne
Verne was born in February 8, 1828 in France. He is most
well known as a pioneer of the science fiction genre and for
his novels: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the
Center of the Earth and Around the World in Eighty Days -
all of which are currently under consideration by Breakneck
Classics. He is the author of 54 novels in all.
Master
of the World was one of the last novels Verne wrote (1904)
before he died in 1905. It is a fast paced thrill ride about
an evil genius (The Master of the World, and the detective
sent to thwart his plans. We are proud to offer this novel
as our first Jules Verne publication because not only is it
easy to read, is pure fun from start to finish.

At Breakneck Classics, we strive to bring back the
timeless authors that influenced our new authors and
blazed the trail of the action/adventure, science
fiction and thrillers genres. These folks were the James
Rollins, Michael Crichton and Douglas Preston of their
day. They were at the cutting edge of science at the
time and more often than not accurately predicted where
science would take us in the future (our present), just
as Leonardo Da Vinci had generations before.
All of our classics are complete and unabridged and when
appropriate presented in their original format. In addition
to this, we will include appealing covers, study material,
discussion questions and resources appropriate for students,
schools and homeschoolers, making these books truly
unique and useful editions.
In addition, to help young readers find the classics
they'll most enjoy, we'll be implementing a "If you're
interested in..." program that lists subjects covered in the
books, making picking the best match for young readers a
snap.
We hope you enjoy our classics and if you have any
suggestions for future classics, please visit the
"suggestions" section of our
submissions page. Please remember that classics must have
been published before 1923 and must be in a genre
appropriate for Breakneck Books.
